Description Forgotten User 5jFyFBvk-I 2008-12-24 07:03:45 UTC
It's a bit difficult to describe, but I'll try.
When leaving the machine for some time X starts using a lot of CPU.

As soon as I touch a key CPU usage decreases. It uses up to 70% CPU, which makes the computer use a lot of power .-(

I thought that it might be a desktop effect thingy, but disabling desktop effekts did not help.

I'm running KDE 4.1.3

Thanks in advance

I switched to vn driver instead of using the nvidia driver. That did not help. Also, I might mention, that the screensaver is disabled. Not that I know that the latter has anything to say, but I just thought I'd have to mention it.

Sorry for spamming.. I enabled the screensaver and with the screensaver enabled it looks as if it does no longer use a lot of cpu usage. But if I disable the screensaver, the problem reppears.

Same problem. I use GNOME and my notebook heats too much when idling. I had screensaver set to "blank screen" and 10 minutes.
When working on the computer, CPU usage fell back to normal.

After removing gscreensaver package (together with x-screensaver and g-powermanager, sadly), idling computer does not heat up anymore.

Powermanager and lock-screen are very important for me.
