Description Forgotten User xkLf2DaQYV 2009-01-02 10:49:47 UTC
I had opensuse 10.3 64-bit working with my WG311T (Atheros) card using madwifi. On upgrade via new installation to 11.1 my card was detected by the ath5k driver. Great, I thought. I configured it in YAST to set my ESSID and 128bit WEP Hex key. But scanning for my WEP-encrypted network from my linksys router (iwlist wlan0 scan) my network was not found at all. Some neighbours' WPA networks were found. Rebooting etc. made no difference and.

FYI the same card worked fine on Windows and my Samsung Q45 laptop also on 11.1 64-bit connected to the network just fine from the same desk.

Finally I found the madwifi 11.1 packages and the card is now working (I am posting using it), [but only in 802.11b mode - separate bug for that].

Some output:

lspci | grep Atheros
01:02.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter (rev01)

uname -r
2.6.27.7-9-default

iwlist wlan0 scan
<my network not found at all>

Could you please attach the output of dmesg after the scan has finished?

ath5k phy0: noise floor calibration failed (2442MHz)
ath5k phy0: ath5k_chan_set: unable to reset channel (2442 Mhz)
wlan0: failed to set freq to 2442 MHz for scan

Jiri, you've already committed the patch 'ath5k: ignore the return value of ath5k_hw_noise_floor_calibration'. Hence this bug should be fixed soon, right?

Maybe. Could you try kotd?

After you could check kotd and still replicate the issue, feel free to reopen this entry.
