When I tried to start the mysql daemon I got the attached trace in the /var/log/messages file. mysqld failed with "/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock didn't appear within 30 seconds".

reiserfs-3.6.19-116.62

/dev/sda8 is mounted on /var

Reproducible: Didn't try

I guess problem here isn't MySQL but kernel, so I'm reassigning this to the kernel maintainers.
