Bugzilla – Bug 503486
KDE4 desktop hangs when connected to internet and with few open applications
Last modified: 2009-07-25 09:52:59 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.8) Gecko/2009032600 SUSE/3.0.8-1.3 Firefox/3.0.8 My openSUSE 11.2 milestone 1 KDE4 desktop hangs when I connect to internet via firefox opened with many tabs, konversation opened with two or more tabs and connected to irc and joined channels, and three konquerors opened. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Connect to internet via firefox and open many tabs where in some tabs open websites and in some tabs just keep them open. 2. Open konversation with two or more tabs and connect to irc and join channels. 3. Open three konquerors and open websites in all three konquerors. Actual Results: After performing all the above steps, after sometime my openSUSE KDE4 desktop hangs with alt-tab key, ctrl-t key, cursor, keyboard keys working through which I could select my prefered opened application, open many tabs in application, move cursor everywhere, type in addressbar of the application and press enter which opens website. Expected Results: My openSUSE KDE4 desktop should have not hanged.
Is it really caused by KDE? Can you reproduce the problem also when not using anything from KDE (e.g. GNOME or Xfce session, no KDE apps)?
Is it ok for me to install only openSUSE KDE4 live cd? Though it will not be easy for me to reproduce the problem, I can report back to you the next time my openSUSE KDE4 desktop hangs.
No. I asked if you can reproduce the problem WITHOUT using KDE. The KDE4 livecd does not provide much more than KDE.
Created attachment 292200 [details] screenshot of the xconsole I meant I am having only openSUSE KDE4 live cd. My openSUSE KDE4 desktop again hanged so I pressed ctrl-alt-backspace and when I logged in back, xconsole displayed with some messages for which I have attached the screenshot.
(In reply to comment #3) > I asked if you can reproduce the problem WITHOUT using KDE. I cannot reproduce the problem without using KDE.
Does the problem still exist with a more recent development version, e.g. Milestone 3? Please also note the checkbox "This comment provides the needed information ..." below the comment field.
Please reopen if it still happens with Milestone 4 or newer.
