[KDE 4.3] Sorry - Dolphin KDEInit could not launch 'konsole'.

2.6.27.23-0.1-default #1 SMP 2009-05-26 17:02:05 -0400 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux KDE Version 4.2.4 (KDE 4.2.4) "release 2" kde4-kate-4.2.4-1.18 kde4-konqueror-4.2.4-1.4 kde4-dolphin-4.2.4-1.18 Error message from Dolphin and Konqueror when I try to open a file from Dolphin or Konqueror with Kate editor as #1 Editor. I changed file assoc from Kwrite to select Kate first (Top preference). KDEInit could not launch 'konsole'. Shouldn't this be using KDEInit4 instead of KDEInit? Only application I have still using KDE3 that I am aware of is KMyMoney. Only KDE3 rpms installed I see are: kdelibs3-3.5.10-21.11 kdelibs3-default-style-3.5.10-21.11 After acknowledging the error, a blank Konsole gui comes up and Kate comes up with the file you were trying to load. If I can provide more infomation let me know.
Please provide exact steps how to reproduce this problem with a newly created user.
No answer and KDE 4.3 packages are current.
Sorry I took so long to answer. Had an out going mail problem which started right after upgrade to KDE 4.3.0 release 155. Turned out my ISP made changes to their smtp server and did not inform anyone. Steps to reproduce are: open a folder with Dolphin (using Ver. 1.3) and then click on a file. The Konsole window comes up, get error message KDEInit cannot launch konsole, but Kate opens the file and displays data. (ex: /home/xxxxxx/.config/trolltech.conf) I did change my editor file association from kwrite to kate as #1 editor. Shouldn't it be using KDEInit4? I still have a few KDE3 rpms installed because of KMyMoney2 and a couple other programs needing them I think. kdebase3-runtime kdebase3 kdebase3-nsplugin kdelibs3 kdelibs3-default-style kdemultimedia3-sound If I can get rid of these it may fix problem??? If you need more information let me know. Thanks for your help.

Still get with latest KDe updates. KDE 4.3.0 release 158 Dolphin 1.3 Also got on my 11.2 MS6 system after last update I did. Thanks for reopening. My 11.1 is my production system. 11.2 is test. Let me know if I can provide anything else. My back trace is not working correctly so I can not send anything from it. Not sure why I must be missing some debug files.
I am experiencing the same problem when trying to open files from Dolphin in Super User mode. For example opening a .conf file will produce "KDEInit could not launch '/usr/bin/kwrite'." I am running a fresh install of OpenSuse 11.1 with all the latest updates per YAST. I don't know if this will help, but here are some versions. I am running the OpenSuse 11.1 (x86-64). kde4-kwin-4.1.3-10.3.7 kde4-dolphin-4.1.3-3.8.9 To add a twist to it, I am able to open files fine using Konquerer in Super User mode.

@ Russ Fineman: Is the problem for you also only present in superuser mode of dolphin as for the people in Comment 6 and 7? If yes, this bug is actually a duplicate of bug 450203
Yes it is only in Super User mode now. I also am on openSUSE 11.2, KDE 4.3.4 release 2 now. Error is still present. Dolphin is version 1.3 I guess we can mark this a duplicate of 450203
