Bugzilla – Bug 529851
Booting Live CD Hangs at "Starting HAL Daemon"
Last modified: 2009-08-11 14:39:56 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090730 SUSE/3.5.2-1.1 Firefox/3.5.2 Booting stops on openSUSE-KDE4-LiveCD-Build0201-i686 CD immediately after "Starting HAL Daemon" message throws up on console. Screen goes black, there is a second or two more disk/CD activity, and then the system hangs (I only waited 3 minutes, though). Reset/reboot is only option, so no debug info, sorry. Occurs whether 1st menu item at boot is chosen, whether changing default to 1024x768, or whether selecting Safe" mode (at default 1600x1200 or 1024x768 over-ride). Milestone 4 booted and worked properly on this PC. Asus M2N-SLI, 2x1 gig Patriot DDR2, WD 250 gig SATA HDD, Nvidia 8600GT (256 meg) PCI-e video, Pioneer 112D (IDE) CD burner Samsung 213T monitor. This PC has run 9.3, 10.0, 10.1, etc., and currently runs 11.1 KDE3 in production each day. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Boot from live CD 2.Select normal or fail-safe (doesn't matter) 3.Hang will occur each and every time, per above details Actual Results: See above Expected Results: See above
Confirmed on both Virtualbox (3.0.4) and qemu-kvm. Same CD image. M4 worked. I booted into runlevel 2 and called Xorg -logverbose 9 -logfile Xorg.log. I will attach the logfile. Maybe someone can use it.
Created attachment 311836 [details] Output of Xorg -logverbose 9 -logfile Xorg.log on qemu-kvm.

Not sure about the dupe. I found this bug, too, but I double checked and hald was running, when I did my tests.
Feel free to reopen once Bug #528397 has been fixed and the issue still exists.
