The software package "eclipse 3.4-243.1" is installed on my system. When I start it with the user "root", I will also be automatically notified that some updates are available. If I try to apply the suggested updates, I get the following error message.

The current configuration contains errors and this operation can have unpredictable results.
  Eclipse BIRT Example (2.2.2.r22x_v20071015-7C7C7A55QQBJZTFDqGIOV) requires plug-in "org.eclipse.tomcat (4.1.130)", or compatible.
  WST Common Core (2.0.2.v200802150100-7C78EKOE_EkMNlO6f7cjpz0) requires plug-in "org.eclipse.ant.core (3.1.100)", or equivalent.
  Eclipse RCP Patch 1 for 3.3.2 (3.3.2.v20080527_332) requires feature "org.eclipse.rcp (3.3.3.r33x_r20080129-8y8eE9UEUWI6qujeED0xT7bc)".
  Eclipse BIRT Report Designer Feature (2.2.2.r22x_v20071015-7U7U7TB8R573QDLV82yqWWX8fppV) requires plug-in "org.eclipse.tomcat (4.1.130)", or compatible.
  Eclipse BIRT Report Runtime Feature (2.2.2.r22x_v20071015-7U7U7RBs-_N6u3VW7eooU) requires plug-in "org.eclipse.tomcat (4.1.130)", or compatible.
  JST Enterprise UI (2.0.2.v200802150100-7b7_Es8EU6AXOV9QLJSees1SQoYQ) requires plug-in "org.eclipse.ant.core (3.1.100)", or equivalent.

How should such dependencies be resolved?
Should I get rid of any old components?


If I try an installation for an item from the BIRT update site, I get the following unpleasant reaction.

An error occurred while collecting items to be installed

I can recommend you to not use eclipse package in openSUSE. Use the one from
eclipse.org, because the one in openSUSE needs much more maintenance effort I
can provide.

I forgot to close it - and running of eclipse as root is not recommended.

BTW: I'm working on new eclipse package in Java:eclipse:Devel and it might be
able to install plugins.
