User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; cs-CZ; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-3.2 Firefox/3.0.6

I have tried updating 11.1 => 11.2 RC1. After the first reboot, GRUB only writes:

"GRUB Loading Stage1.5"
"GRUB loading..."

and after a second, the machine restarts, which results in an infinite loop. No menu is shown and the machine is unusable unless booting from DVD or USB.

Hardware: ThinkPad T42

I had to repair the machine using openSUSE 11.1 DVD. Strangely reinstalling GRUB with default options from the repair tool did not resolve the problem. In the second attempt "Bootloader location" was set to all "MBR", "Root partition" and "Extended partition". Only after that GRUB started properly.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Seems related to bug #223773.
Comment 3 Urs Beyerle 2009-12-09 13:28:02 UTC
I see the same problem after upgrading from 11.1 to 11.2 on a

Asus Pundit P4-P5N9300, GeForce 9300, Socket 775

Reinstalling grub from 11.2 does not help.

My workaround:
Installing grub-0.97-156.3.i586 from 11.1 and add "solvable_name: grub" to /etc/zypp/locks.

Assumed fixed by latest OBS check-in that builds with known compiler.
