OpenSuse Final release candidate doesn't boot up on my pc. Notebook Lg S1 P222P. After "start Hal Daemon" I get a black screen and nothing more! LG S1 P222P - C2D 7200, ATI MOBILITY X1600 Please can someone help-me! It's a shame I need to go back to kubuntu! :( Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
ok, nopreload helped in one case. can you please boot into init 3 and then do strace -f -o preload.log /sbin/preload /var/cache/preload/prepared I hope that somehow stalls and then I'm interested in the end of the preload.log
I did the strace of preload, and it doesn't stall, terminates in less than a second (booting into init3 with and without nopreload). I am attaching the log for booting without nopreload.

and you can't boot into init 5 without nopreload still? If so, you can patch /etc/init.d/boot.startpreload to use strace -f -o /tmp/preload.log where it's currently doing /usr/bin/ionice -c3 But please add a & at the end of command then or it will be stuck much earlier :)
here it comes (preload-boot.log). A funny I notced is that now I cannot even boot into runlevel 3 anymore without nopreload on the commandline (this used to work yesterday). booting into RL 3 without nopreload, the bootprocess now gets stuck at Start Unicode mode ..done and I have to ctrl alt del.

Ok, the log file doesn't really make sense to me, but at least it's something. Can you compile preload from sources btw to test some patches?

that looks much better but as you noticed yourself, the dynamic nature of preload makes it pretty hard to say it works now in general. But the differences I see in the strace make me confident

No, it has been cloned because you have a hardware problem, while Markus had a problem that went away when rebooted often enough - and the livecd worked for him.
