Bugzilla – Bug 617672
YaST installer German translation incomplete
Last modified: 2018-04-25 08:01:05 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100317 SUSE/3.5.9-0.1.1 Firefox/3.5.9 During installation of openSUSE 11.3 RC1 32 bit, after selecting German language on the initial screen, several pieces of English text remain throughout the installation dialog: 1. When setting the initial user password and (as usual) getting rebuked by the password quality checker, the resulting message box reads: The password is too simple: Es basiert auf einem Wörterbucheintrag. Really use this password? [Ja] [Nein] Ie. only every other line is translated. 2. On the "Installationsübersicht" (installation overview) screen, the "Firewall und SSH" section reads. [ ] Firewall wird eingeschaltet (ausschalten) [ ] SSH service will be disabled, SSH port will be blocked (enable and open) Ie. the first option is translated, the second isn't. 3. On the "Konfiguration - Hostname" screen, the options read: [ ] Hostnamen über DHCP ändern [ ] Assign Hostname to Loopback IP Ie. again the first option is translated but the second isn't. The same holds for the associated help text, which has a German paragraph explaining the first option followed by an English paragraph explaining the second one. 4. On the "Network - ISDN - Provider - Add Provider" screen there is an untranslated option text: Enable Device Control for Non-root User Via QInternet Reproducible: Always
Yes, German is one of the languages that is not fully translated. See the statistics: http://i18n.opensuse.org/stats/trunk/de/index.php
That's a pity, specifically in the light of SuSE's history. Can I help in any way, or is it too late to jump in?
It would work best, if you would directly submit to the localization SVN at BerliOS (which is down right now...). You would need an BerliOS account, then I can grant you SVN commit rights. This is our project at BerliOS: http://developer.berlios.de/projects/opensuse-i18n/ General info on localization is here: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Localization_Guide or ask on the opensuse-translation or opensuse-translation-de ML, please. Whether there is still time, depends on the quality of the next RC (I guess, at least we can update yast translations during the next6 hours).
Alright, I am now registered on BerliOS as tilmanschmidt (just like here). I have no experience with svn but from looking at the OpenSUSE_Localization_Guide page it looks rather simple, just: "svn checkout" - edit - "svn commit". I've also subscribed to the opensuse-translation-de ML just in case. I'll see what I can still achieve once I get your confirmation on the SVN rights.
Thanks! You now have commit rights as tilmanschmidt. Note, the BerliOS SVN ist still down for maintenance. See http://developer.berlios.de/forum/forum.php?forum_id=35407
I've committed five updates now that should cover what I came across so far, including what I reported in this bug as well as bugs 608850 and 608797. Updated files are: yast/de/po/users.de.po yast/de/po/network.de.po yast/de/po/base.de.po lcn/de/po/gnome-patch-translation.de.po lcn/de/po/update-desktop-files-apps.de.po I hope you can use them. If I find the time (and you don't tell me to stop ...) I may do a few more yet, but right now I'm promising nothing.
Thanks for all your help thus far! On Monday, I'll update the yast and desktop files translations. Standa, can you please take care of the gnome tanslations?
I submitted #42467 (OBS). bug 610313 is still an open issue,
mark it as resolved
