There's no sound that came out through the speakers. When I plug the headphones the sound come out only through them.

I checked the channels were not muted and the levels of volume up to 100% via Alsamixer and Gmixer and I made the following tests in a terminal like a normal and root user without succes to hear anything through the speakers:

speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav
speaker-test -c2 -D hw:0,0 -t wav -l3
aplay -vv /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_*
aplay -vv /usr/share/sounds/alsa/test.wav

I plugged the headphones to the system and I made the same tests like a normal and root user and this time I had sound through them.

You will find attached the alsa-info.txt

I found this problem on an Acer TravelMate 290 (TM291LCi) 30Gb and 256Mb RAM OpenSuSE 11.3 LXDE

Hm, I see no problem in the mixer setup. So, it's just speaker output that is missing?

Sometimes there are hardware volume controls that are irrelevant with the sound driver. For example, try to unmute, raise the volume via laptop keyboard.

Only missing the speaker output.
I tried to unmute and raise the volume via keyboard but it makes no difference for the speakers. I made the same tests with the headphones plugged and there's no difference with the sound, I mean, the sound that came out through the headphones doesn't change if I unmute or raise the volume via keyboard.

Same problem here. It is on a Thinkpad T400s, running OpenSuSE 11.3, 64bit.
I will attach my alsa-info as well.

It was hardware's problem. I replaced the internal connector of audio with a new ones and now it works "out of the box"!
