Description Leonardo Chiquitto 2010-11-23 11:51:02 UTC
Pidgin fails to connect to MSN because something changed in MSN server's certificate chain:

""
  Unable to validate certificate

The certificate for omega.contacts.msn.com could not be validated.
The certificate chain presented is invalid.
""

This problem is already fixed in Pidgin 2.7.6:

    - Included Microsoft Internet Authority 2010 and Microsoft
Secure Server Authority 2010 intermediate CA certificates to
our bundle. This fixes the "Unable to validate certificate"
      error for omega.contacts.msn.com.
Comment 1 Leonardo Chiquitto 2010-11-23 11:55:34 UTC
I prepared the updated to 2.7.6 in home:leonardocf:branches:GNOME:Apps/pidgin. I'll test it now and do a submit request later if it works fine.
Comment 2 Luis Medinas 2010-11-23 12:01:52 UTC
It would be nice to backport the fix for 11.3 it's broken there and users may not want to add GNOME:Apps repository.
Comment 3 Leonardo Chiquitto 2010-11-23 12:24:49 UTC
Luis, I agree. I'll prepare and test the package. Maintenance Team, please, can we release a pidgin update for 11.2 and 11.3? This is the upstream patch that we will need to include:

http://developer.pidgin.im/viewmtn/revision/diff/20a05505e63a6e1e155e3bdb22773eb839eaf830/with/cd236baf6d00f3e1561a40974ce1828b793ea187
Comment 4 Dominique Leuenberger 2010-11-23 12:45:01 UTC
FYI: The update for G:A has already happened.
Comment 5 Leonardo Chiquitto 2010-11-23 13:01:51 UTC
Dominique, what do you mean? GNOME:Apps/pidgin still contains 2.7.5. Anyway, I just tested the updated package in my branch and it works. May I submit it for your review or I just wasted my time on this?
Comment 6 Dominique Leuenberger 2010-11-23 13:18:39 UTC
you can submit your review, no problem. But there is already another request pending in review currently... maybe yours is better though :)
Comment 7 Leonardo Chiquitto 2010-11-23 14:00:02 UTC
OK. Submitted against GNOME:Apps (request id 53776). I believe the only difference from yours is the reference to this bug report.

important for our msn users ... update started.
Comment 10 Luis Medinas 2010-11-23 18:00:13 UTC
I guess we should wait a bit see http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/12906
Looks like pidgin 2.7.6 still have some problems with this issue.
Comment 11 Leon Lin Wang 2010-11-24 04:44:58 UTC
Which repo can we get pidgin 2.7.6 from, for opensuse11.2?
Comment 12 Luis Medinas 2010-11-25 14:50:19 UTC
Ok pidgin 2.7.7 is out and it really fixes this problem. I think it's important to submit and update for 11.3

Maintenance team are you ok with updating pidgin to 2.7.7 on 11.3 and also try to get #655675 done too ? This might take a bit more in order to fix the icq bug.
Comment 13 Alexandre Rogoski 2010-11-25 21:23:04 UTC
Absolutely, yes, It's urgent.
Comment 14 Marcus Meissner 2010-11-26 07:51:50 UTC

With this patch it works fine, but today it popup the warning again,

The certificate for omega.contacts.msn.com could not be validated. The certificate chain presented is invalid.

So I visit the https://omega.contacts.msn.com and get the new certificates, I found it's different to the two in your link.

Does the MS change it again?
Comment 23 Luis Medinas 2010-12-03 16:16:56 UTC
Dirk, sorry for taking so long, SR's done for 11.1, 11.2 and 11.3.

Thanks
Comment 24 Alexandre Rogoski 2010-12-03 16:36:08 UTC
GNOME:Apps for openSUSE_11.3+GNOME_STABLE_2.32 is already shipping pidgin 2.7.7

From where should the package come?
Comment 25 Marcus Meissner 2010-12-03 21:54:59 UTC
i created patchinfos.

@alexandre: we need them via the regular update repos.
Comment 26 Vincent Untz 2010-12-06 15:35:09 UTC
Changing the summary so we can track the MSN and ICQ issues together (since they are both fixed by the 2.7.7 update, according to upstream).

Be so kind and submit the fixed version against openSUSE:11.{1,2,3}:Update:Test
Comment 29 Vincent Untz 2010-12-08 15:36:18 UTC
Apparently, it's already in openSUSE:11.{2,3}:Update:Test.

Luis did you also submit to openSUSE:11.1:Update:Test?
Comment 30 Marcus Meissner 2010-12-08 15:41:42 UTC
he did.
