User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 SUSE/3.6.13-0.2.1 Firefox/3.6.13

Dell Studio 1537 laptop w/Radeon HD3450 graphics freezes immediately when booting 64-bit KDE4 liveCD of openSUSE-11.4 RC2. Screen turns to grey with hundreds of coloured horizontal lines and no PC activity no reponse to any key sequences. If one boots with TEXT selected one gets the freeze immediately upon kernel load complete with freeze occuring immediately after message:

'creating device modes with udev'

Freeze also occurs with VESA selected.

If one uses the boot code nomodeset the PC boots the liveCD to X (KDE4) ok to the radeonhd driver. If one uses the boot code nomodeset to boot to X, types 'init 3', uncomments 'radeon' in the 50-device.conf file, and then 'init 3' X comes up with the radeon driver. Radeon driver works ok.

Note in openSUSE-11.4 RC1 this PC booted ok without having to specify nomodeset. Hence this appears to be an 11.4 RC1 to RC2 regression.

The media check of the liveCD (using the nomodeset boot code) works and media is OK.

I raised this against kernel, but maybe its udev. But thre is no 'component' udev.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot 64-bit openSUSE-11.4 KDE liveCD
2.
3.
Actual Results:
PC freezes with pattern across screen if one boots without nomodeset. With nomodeset PC boots to radeonhd driver.

Expected Results:
PC should boot without having to specific nomodeset. This worked ok in 11.4 RC1.
