Description Stefan Seyfried 2011-03-27 10:05:11 UTC
Today I got complaints that our parallel printer does not work anymore.

After some digging around, a "modprobe lp" fixed the issue.

This is with 11.4 + tumbleweed kernel (2.6.38-18-default), box was updated from 11.3 a few days ago.

After rebooting into 11.4 kernel, still no "lp" loaded.

This is an ABIT IP35-E board with an pci addon 2xserial+parallel card:

05:05.0 Communication controller: NetMos Technology PCI 9835 Multi-I/O Controller (rev 01)
Subsystem: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 1P2S
        Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 23
        I/O ports at cf00 [size=8]
        I/O ports at ce00 [size=8]
        I/O ports at cd00 [size=8]
        I/O ports at cc00 [size=8]
        I/O ports at cb00 [size=8]
        I/O ports at ca00 [size=16]
        Kernel driver in use: parport_serial

manually loading "lp" in boot.local for now to fix the issue.

This is a regression from 11.3.

"modprobe lp" stuff is obviously not a printing issue
but kernel related - including udev and so on...
