Hello,

Just got a pretty weird bug. As a workflow to test an other bug I tryed to install very last 12.3 iso (rc1 probably, build 024) I let the tick for "use same passwd for root" what I never do usually.

I used "culte" for user, "culte123" as passwd (dummy, so I can share :-). I was asked "do you really want that" and said yes.

When te (xfce, no boot manager) install was over I could boot (with other party grub legacy). The boot was incredibly long - but the computer is old.

and on the xfce login, I couldn't log. No user.

But I could perfectly log as root with culte123!!! and veryfy, nothing in /home.

loging xfce as root I could add the culte user with yast and log normally

jdd

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
very long to reproduce :-(
Actual Results:
I don't see hox this can happen. I was never asked for the root pass, of course

hello.
I use xfce. the situation is even worst right now, I can't even log width gdm as user. I can log as root, log as tty

I made zypper up right now (feb 27, five o'clock), seeing the problem, I tryed zypper dup, with no better result.

I install kde to compare
Comment 5 Jean-Daniel Dodin 2013-02-27 16:46:03 UTC
may be it's not gdm, because I could log width gdm, but icewm, not xfce
Comment 6 Jean-Daniel Dodin 2013-02-27 16:58:52 UTC
yes, width kdm kde4 loads ok but xfce still not

but I don't know if it's the same bug?

may I open an other bug?

thanks

> yes, width kdm kde4 loads ok but xfce still not

Sounds like bug 789068 ...
Comment 8 Jiří Suchomel 2013-02-27 21:08:39 UTC
So just to clarify: you actually can log as non-root user, but not into xfce.

Login on text console or into other window manager is fine.
Comment 9 Jean-Daniel Dodin 2013-02-28 08:25:54 UTC
exactly

I also can log as root in xfce, so it may by a permission problem

but I don't know if it's related to the bug I first openned here.
Comment 10 Jiří Suchomel 2013-02-28 08:42:02 UTC
So it does not look related to YaST at all.
