Description Adam Cohn 2013-09-23 01:16:55 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/31.0.1636.0 Safari/537.36

I have an Asus N550JV-DB71 notebook. With an Intel Haswell i7-4700HQ and UEFI. When I try to boot the livecd net installer from either a usb created with "dd if=openSUSE-Factory-NET-Build0725-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdb" It worked with the milestone 4 iso builds but not with iso build #0725.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.create a usb installer with dd if=openSUSE-Factory-NET-Build0725-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdb or burn a CD/DVD
2. Boot with UEFI
3. Press enter to boot the first option
Actual Results:
Boot screen will hold and will become completely unresponsive. Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work. Possible kernel panic?

Expected Results:
Boot to the installer.

This makes installation impossible.

I also have a Nvidia Geforce GT 750m.

You will probably find that your bug is a duplicate of: Bug #841426

"Upgrading to Beta1 from previous milestone made my laptop unbootable (UEFI support broken)"

(I have the same problem with my shiny new HP laptop, which uses Intel 4600 graphics, so the Nvidia is not part of the problem.)

Thanks, are there nightly ISO builds. Maybe its fixed in one of those?

Not nightly ISO builds, but if you take a look at Bug #841426 there are some ways to get Beta1 to boot, I am quite happy with Milestone4 Live-KDE for my purposes, so I intend to wait for RC1 before I try to install again (it is due out Oct 10.)

I wish the alpha installer worked properly but has issue mount BTRFS and XFS Partitions. EXT4 works fine though. It's weird. It happens with previous installers like 12.3 net-install. But I have not had a chance to test it on the 13.1 Beta 1 installer. OpenSuse being the only distro that seems to work on my laptop. Fedora and other similair ones give a kernel panic. This is due to Nouveau not cooperating with the Pre-installed Nvidia Geforce GT 750M with Optimus. It says it has an "Invalid Rom".

The cd does not boot if I disable secure-boot.

It doesn't boot for me either -- Bug #841426 also suggests enabling the bios CMS loading, or even the "Legacy mode" on the boot menu. I have totally decided that Beta1 is too risky for my one week old Laptop, so I have not tried any of the suggestions given in Bug #841426 -- You should really mark this bug as a duplicate of theirs, and follow their advice if you are committed to installing Beta1 on your laptop.
