Description Jon Nelson 2014-12-07 18:28:52 UTC
when using yast2 sw_single it wants to install many -32bit packages and dblatex and texlive-*, however

"zypper up" doesn't.

This is very frustrating because every time I have to do and tell it *not* to install those *over 1,000* packages before I can get anything done.

zypper dup (not up) does want to install them, but I don't know *why*.

I don't want or need over 1500 -32bit and texlive-* packages.

(1567 to be exact)

If I use --no-recommends I get what I expect.
What is recommending all of these packages?

Yep, just wanted to file a bug for the same issue.
New 13.2 installation, some packages removed (e.g. games)

If I want to install a package with zypper, it just resolves the dependiencies for that package.
If I do the same with Yast2-frontend, it installs some 1000+ packages, where I have no clue why.

So, from that perspective we can treat this bug as confirmed

Attach Yast logs, please.

Comment 3 Lukas Ocilka 2014-12-15 10:05:34 UTC
Ladislav, is this expected behavior? Is it a feature of Yast Packager?
Comment 4 Axel Braun 2014-12-15 10:14:44 UTC
I hope not that it is intended.
Please find attached the yast2-logs, openSUSE 13.2 32bit installation in a virtaul machine.
Some patterns (graphics, laptop, games, but as well flash-player) was de-selected during installation.
the log y2logs_zypper_install contains the installation of a package via
zypper in tryton
while y2logs_yast_install contains the same activity via yast. Tons of unwanted packages are installed (including flash-player!)

Seems to be related to bug 903632.

What progress might be reported on this bug?
Comment 8 Axel Braun 2015-01-27 13:47:22 UTC
Just noticed that after the last update of zypper to 1.11.17-9.1 it wants to install all the patterns that I have de-selected during installation, like games, imaging, kde4_games etc.

This is truly a nightmare! I see no benefit in getting patterns that are not required.....
Comment 9 Axel Braun 2015-01-28 11:45:31 UTC
PS:
zypper lu shows just the packages to be upgraded [OK]
zypper up wants then to install...whatever else.
Comment 10 Ladislav Slezák 2015-02-12 15:47:29 UTC
This actually a duplicate of bnc#903632.

The zypper issue looks unrelated to this, please report it in a separate bug report (use "libzypp" component).
