Chromium URL bar with part of the URL selected

When I select some text in text fields, selection lists or the URL bar of Chromium (52.0.2743.116-1.1), instead of, say, white text on blue background, the background is also white, which makes the text illegible.

I have this problem, too, with openSUSE Tumbleweed-20160828 and KDE.
Comment 2 Martin Liška 2016-09-06 17:25:57 UTC
Confirmed on the latest Tumbleweed with GNOME.
Comment 3 Martin Liška 2016-09-06 18:18:22 UTC
FWIW I've just tried that chromium-52.0.2743.82-61.1.x86_64 taken from Leap 42.1 works fine.
Comment 4 Tomáš Chvátal 2016-09-10 11:04:41 UTC
This is fixed by chromium-53 thus closing. Reopen if you still have the issue.

Chromium 53 URL bar with selection

This still happens to me with Chromium 53.0.2785.116, see attachment.

This still happens to me with Chromium 53.0.2785.116, reopening.
Comment 7 Tobias Pfeiffer 2016-10-24 00:50:13 UTC
Still happens to me for 54.0.2840.71 (64-bit) -- is this fixed for everyone else?
Comment 8 Forgotten User _AcwqRqvKw 2016-10-31 18:47:08 UTC
I have Chromium 54.0.2840.71 and selected text is still white. Shouldn't this issue be covered by OpenQA tests?

I can confirm that this still happens with all updates installed on Leap 42.2 in Gnome. It does not happen with Plasma.

I have updated from Leap 42.1 less then a week ago and there the issue did not appear with Gnome.

Hello,

I just migrated from openSUSE 13.2 to Leap 42.2, and encounters this issue.

I'm using cinnamon (gtk3 engine) and Chromium "Version 55.0.2883.75 (64-bit)".

The bug is related to the theme used for the controls, which is in my case the default "Adwaita".

Switching to another theme for "Controls", for exemple "Menta" the issue is not present anymore.

Adwaita is the default Gnome theme, so the below folder is empty:

usr/share/themes/Adwaita/gtk-3.0

(To be correct, only a gtk.css that doesn't define anything).

I'm trying to find what is the problem, but it's not easy to track down what is causing this issue when you know nothing in theming and gnome architecture :)

By the way it is working fine in Firefox.
Comment 12 Forgotten User VZEHQc-_rb 2016-12-29 14:53:03 UTC
The term "Controls" theme is related to Cinnamon, in Gnome settings, it is just called "GTK+".

Now tried a little bit tweaking ... when using another theme, what is "fixing" the selected background is this line in gtk.css:

@define-color theme_selected_bg_color #B4BBA3;

However I was not able to create a simple Adwaita clone that works. I followed the guide to tweak Adwaita (default embedded theme for gtk3) and was able to modify some colors, but changing the "theme_selected_bg_color" didn't gave the expected result :(

Also I don't see why it doesn't work in Chromium, but is fine in Firefox ... the problem is more complex than that ...

this is also an issue on Chromium 56 on Leap 42.2.
Changing to "use classic theme" instead of the gtk theme fixes the issue

this is occurring in plasma 5.8.3 with Chromium 55 and 56
Have not tried earlier versions of Chromium

I can confirm that "use classic theme" fixes the issue (Chromium 55 @ Tumbleweed).

actually . . . it seems to only change the text selection colour. The menu and context menu highlight colour remains white.

Assigning to the correct chromium maintainer
Comment 20 Forgotten User qaEk2t_ec- 2017-03-06 02:06:46 UTC
I also see it in openSUSE Tumbleweed 20170304. Switching to the classic theme is an immediate work around. In chromium, click the three vertical dots in the top right > Settings > Appearance > Use Classic theme. Mine had been set to Use GTK+ theme.

Dang. That fixed the URL bar, but not text in text windows like this one. Chromium	56.0.2924.87 (Developer Build) (64-bit)
Comment 21 Mark Fairbairn 2017-03-14 10:43:01 UTC
I was able to fix this by . . .
Uninstalling Chromium 56.x.x
Deleting /home/~/.config/chromium/
installing Chromium 57.x.x from network repo

logging back in to Chromium and loading my gtk theme.
All is correct again.

Simply updating from Chromium 56.x.x to 57.x.x did not correct the problem. It was necessary to delete the above folder.

I would expect Chromium 57 should make its way into the update folder in the next few days.

There is not much I can do with the user profile configuration issues.

I can just recommend reporting it upstream.
