Bugzilla – Bug 985460
VUL-0: CVE-2016-5689: GraphicsMagick,ImageMagick: NULL ptr dereference in dcm coder
Last modified: 2016-08-15 14:24:34 UTC
> Null pointer accesses and unclear segfaults can happen in the DCM > parser. > > Sample for null pointer access in ReadDCMImage > > Sample for null pointer access in ReadDCMImage (different code) > > Sample for unclear segfault in ReadDCMImage > > https://github.com/ImageMagick/ImageMagick/commit/5511ef530576ed18fd636baa3bb4eda3d667665d As far as we can tell, there are three separate issues identified in the fix. (These do not necessarily map directly to the three samples.) Use CVE-2016-5689 for the lack of required NULL pointer checks.

both IM and GM lack NULL ptr checking in these places

Testcases works reliably for ImageMagick, but not for GraphicsMagick. As the code is more or less different, considering GraphicsMagick unaffected by CVE-2016-5689, CVE-2016-5690, CVE-2016-5691.
Just one example: if (data == (unsigned char *) NULL) ThrowReaderException(ResourceLimitError,MemoryAllocationFailed, image); is in 11/GraphicsMagick much sooner in the function.
ImageMagick: AFTER patching I get Unexpected end-of-file exception as in GraphicsMagick.
I believe all fixed.
