Bugzilla – Bug 1190479
VUL-0: CVE-2021-42252: kernel-source: aspeed: mmapable area larger than it is supposed to be
Last modified: 2024-06-25 16:22:01 UTC
This one is from upstream: commit b49a0e69a7b1a68c8d3f64097d06dabb770fec96 Author: Iwona Winiarska <iwona.winiarska@intel.com> Date: Wed Aug 4 01:48:18 2021 +0200 soc: aspeed: lpc-ctrl: Fix boundary check for mmap The check mixes pages (vm_pgoff) with bytes (vm_start, vm_end) on one side of the comparison, and uses resource address (rather than just the resource size) on the other side of the comparison. This can allow malicious userspace to easily bypass the boundary check and map pages that are located outside memory-region reserved by the driver. The affected kernels are v4.12 and newer and we compile the driver in question as a module. Also, I think this requires a CVE, should Intel not have requested one.
Fixes: 6c4e97678501 ("drivers/misc: Add Aspeed LPC control driver")
Affected security base branch: - stable Security base branches already fixed via git-fixes (72091acc1a92): - SLE15-SP2 - SLE15-SP3 Fixing commit ID: 72091acc1a9230e6bdec07223b802502b4057686
requested CVE
cve added
The patch reference updated on SLE15-SP2 and SLE15-SP4 branches. SLE15-SP3 will be updated from SP2. The fix patch was backported cve/linux-4.12 branch with a slight modification to adapt to the old file path (drivers/misc). The older branches are unaffected. Reassigned back to security team.
... and stable has already included the fix via stable 5.14.x, too.
