Description of Problem:

If you close the solution explorer the welcome page goes blank.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open MD (with welcome page and solution explorer enabled)
2. Close the solution explorer

Actual Results:

The welcome page is blank

Expected Results:

The welcome page works as usual

All the time
