The --profile option used to slow down execution, but now it is much more
slower than before. MonoDevelop takes several minutes to start.

The most helpful thing to do here would be to try:

         Old Mono    New Mono
       -----------------------
Old MD |          |          |
       -----------------------
New MD |          |          |
       -----------------------

And find out which ones are fast and which are slow.
